Do you Sea the Light?

Hello Beautiful Souls

Welcome to my first Mary’s Monthly Muses. For the first letter, I thought I would explain my biggest Muse, the source for the name of my business, SeaLight Coaching.  Here’s my story.

The sea– ocean has always had an impact on me. It started when I was between the ages of 3-5. My parents took a family vacation from South Dakota to Palos Verdes, CA., where my Mom’s sister and family lived. We drove part way- then took a train to the West Coast. The train ride I do not have memories of.

What I do have memories of at such a young age, was the ocean. Taking a walk along the beach- watching a man trying to return a  Stingray back into the ocean without being stung. I remember the power of the waves, tugging against my feet, and holding on tightly. I remember the salty smell and mist that hit my face.

I went to college in Texas- and during spring breaks, we went to Port Aransas on the Gulf of Mexico. Even though we were young and dumb doing stupid things- I remember feeling the mystery and power of the Gulf. We were all stung by jellyfish but still kept going back in. “Pee on the sting” the lifeguard would yell. I loved the feel of the beach and the salty scent in the air.

1994, I moved to Hawaii-or was sent there by my parents after a heartbreak. My oldest brother was doing a clerkship for a Judge and graciously opened his temporary home to me, to heal and fall in love with the island. I fought it at first, with my cowboy boots and hat. Then, it happened, I fell for the ocean and the Islands. I let it swallow me up and intertwine with every cell. Everyone I met, worked to play on the ocean. Sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, floating. The warmth of the beach and gentle waves consumed me. The massive monster waves of the North Shore mesmerized me. I dove into the folklore of the Islands and thought I would never leave its gentle caresses.

Dreams change and I moved across the Pacific to Los Angeles. The city of Lost Angels. The city seduced me with dreams of fame- but I found solace on weekly trips to the Ocean- driving along the Pacific Coast Highway– taking me to the quiet beaches of Point Dume or north towards Santa Barbara.

I left for Minnesota- for a job. The Lakes are beautiful, but did not pull me like the Sea waters- It has always pushed me towards it- pulled me to San Francisco.  Circumstances brought me back to Minnesota for a couple years, Seattle next.

SeaLight Coaching  represents the pulling to something bigger-more expansive, the unknown-the infinite. Powerful, yet beautiful. A Sea is smaller body of water than the ocean where the ocean and land meet. We are just that- a smaller part of something bigger, all connected. The Light is the light from within that guides us. I believe under everyone’s human shell, lies an inter-light, the Source we connect to that guides us through turbulent and calm times. As the Sea, no matter what is seen, there is underlying power and calmness deep below. We each have that.

Ask yourself this question- What would I love, what is pulling or pushing me?

It is my honor to help you discover that light- the dream that pulls you- the power within. The life that will make you wake up every morning and yell “I love my life”.

With Infinite Possibilities
